Tiny Table Academic Camp Extended Learning Program
Our Tiny Table Academic Camp is a program designed to target students in grades second through six who are considerably below grade level in reading and mathematics in our public schools in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Our Tiny Table Academic Camps will be 10-week long camps to target intervention for struggling students, using data driven intervention and progress monitoring, combined with engaging and active learning. We have incorporated the word “camp” into the title to give meaning to our innovative take on reading and math intervention. The teachers will conduct a guided reading lesson with one, two, three or all four of the students in her class, differentiating instruction as necessary. As students work with a teacher, the remainder of the class will be working on interactive and hands-on activities to reinforce reading and math skills. We want students to want to attend these classes, to be motivated to learn, to play, and to feel great about themselves as learners
Program Format
Tiny Table Reading
Classes will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Our reading camp is designed similarly to a reading workshop. Students will be instructed as a whole group and later work with the teacher in a targeted smaller group. The students who are not with the teacher will be assigned hands-on work, discussion sessions, arts and crafts and other activities related to the current themes, as well as reading passages and strategies and skills that are necessary for reading practice.
